The village of Nafferton is located north of the East Riding town of Driffield. The village is noted for its character properties and listed buildings. The main street of the village is a conservation area where the local authority is keen to maintain the look and feel of the village.

Oak Cottage is located mid way along the main street within the conservation area. The cottage was originally two 19th century workers cottages. At some point during the last century the cottages were combined into one. Sincve then there has been a series of additions and alterations that has degraded the interanl spaces of the cottage.

This project was intended to:

Provide a unified look to the rear of the cottage

Extend the main living room

Provide a utility room and cloakroom

Re-establish a main dining area.

The design achieved this by re-locating the main entrance from the front of the cottages to the side. The new extension was to be constructed using a range of traditional materials so as to be in keeping with the ethos of the conservation area.
